We brought baby to the polyclinic last friday for his jab and physical assessment. Guess what... the doctor who attended to baby is a Trinitarian! We were pleasantly surprised when we saw him. He checked baby's eyes, neck, nerve system, genital etc and concluded that all is fine except that baby's neck still does not appear to be as strong as what it should be. The doc will check on this again in the next visit. We forgot to ask him about his sleeping habits though.
It was quite a painful experience to see the nurse poking the needle into baby's right thigh. I wished I could just say NO!! STOP IT! but of course I didn't. After the merciless act, the nurse gave us a bottle of liquid paracetamol to feed baby should fever develop. It is common for baby to get slight fever after the jab.
True enough, the fever came despite us feeding him the herbal drink (one slice of korean ginseng cooked in rice water). We started feeding him about 1 oz of the herb drink 2 days before his jab. Didn't dare to give him more than that because korean ginseng is known to be 'heaty'. So in the end, we thought of a way of feeding him the drink indirectly... I'll drink the concoction... so baby will also get the nutrients through the breastmilk (or at least that's what i thought could work).
Back to the fever... the highest he hit was 38 deg cel. We fed him about 3 dosage of the medicine at 6-hour interval and sponged him with a towel soaked in cooled tap water. We had to feed him 3 dosage because the effectiveness of the medicine only last for 6 hours before the temperature went up again. After the third dosage, we decide that we shouldn't give him anymore so we just let his body do the work of recuperation. We continued to monitor his temperature (in case it hit critical level above 38.5 deg cel). Thank God, the fever finally subside one day later after giving baby plenty of rest and feed him as much as I can to help perch out the heat in his body.
It's an experience for both MooMoo and myself to learn how to take care of baby when he's having slight fever. As for baby... I guess it really doesn't affect him much... he still managed to smile at us!
