The arrival of Tricia... in His perfect time

The first sign appeared on 4th Sept, Friday morning when I noticed some brown discharge. According to Dr Lim, this occurrence could be due to the check up at the cervix on Thursday or it could well be a tell-tale sign that Tricia's arrival is on the way. Anyway, this is not conclusive enough that I'm in labour... so all I can do is to wait in anticipation.

The second sign came when I felt a numbing pain at the tail bone in the afternoon... no cramps... just intermittent pressure pressing on my pelvic bone. The pain continued even through the evening when we went to Adam Rd for combined cell. Jokingly, I told my cell members that Tricia is ready anytime today or tomorrow since I had "show" and felt some unusual pain.

Lo and behold, after we reached home at about 10:30pm, the pain aggravated and became more intense and regular. I told John that I think the time has come... but since the contraction is still not very regular, we can afford to wait. The wait didn’t last very long although John managed to catch a quick nap before we head towards Mt A at 1:30am, 5th Sept.

To cut the long story short, we went through the admission process, check in to the delivery suite and waited for the moment of Tricia’s arrival. Although this is my second time going through the labour, I couldn’t help feeling a sense helplessness and fear. Afterall, life is filled with perils and uncertainties. However, this feeling didn’t last for long. After the epidural sets in, all I can feel is fatigue and tiredness…. I slept and felt at peace… no longer trying to overcome the contraction pains. Thank God for the invention of epidural.

At 12:47hrs, our princess Tricia came forth… it is kind of strange looking at her for the first time… knowing that she has been a part of me for the past 10 months or so. She’s petite at 3.09kg but not as small as I thought she might be… the most beautiful baby I’ve ever seen.

We called her Tricia which means noble… we hope she will become a woman of noble character like the one mentioned in the Book of Proverbs 31. Her Chinese name 蔡婧怡 carries the meaning of beauty, talented, purity and joy. We pray that God will help us to nuture her to become the woman that God has made her to be.

Thank you, our Lord for giving this gift to us... may we be good steward of this gift and be the best parents we can be.

Mimi signs off
